Tips for Newbie Vegetarians – Where to Start From?

You would like to eat vegetarian food, but what can you expect? You will encounter a lot of things in both food and social situations. The advantage of such a conscious choice is that vegetarians or vegans often eat more fruit and vegetables than people who do eat meat.

Prepare yourself first

As soon as you announce that you are a vegetarian, you are expected to explain why you have made this (very drastic change for most people). And the funny thing is that many people who do eat meat often defend themselves, because your conscious choice actually makes them feel ‘guilty’ that they eat that steak without feeling guilty.

Spread the word

Tell as many friends, colleagues and family members as possible that you are vegetarian so they can take this into account. Especially with dinners and events, it is advisable to let everyone know in advance that you are a vegetarian.

Meat substitutes

Fortunately, it is not very strange to be a vegetarian nowadays. There are a lot of meat substitutes in the supermarkets, which also makes it a lot easier to stop eating meat or fish. I often even like them much better! Recommended; falafel or cheese burgers, my god!

Legumes

These delicious protein bombs are also packed with good nutrients, fiber and vitamin B. It is important for everyone to eat legumes regularly, but for vegetarians it is extra important to still get all the nutrients. And if, like me, you exercise a lot and need a little more protein, lentils or peas will come in handy.

Try, try! If you were used to eating a lot of meat and fish at first, it can take some getting used to in the beginning. Just start by trying different dishes and combinations. You will automatically come across combinations that you will like so much that they will be on your menu every week! If you never try you will never know!

Proteins

Getting the amount of protein is sometimes a challenge and is important for your muscles after exercise. Fortunately, there are still eggs, dairy and cheese that you can get protein from. And legumes, but also nuts (and peanut butter yay!) Contain a lot of protein. Like rice, especially brown rice, such as brown rice or whole grain rice.

What Does Veganism Do To The Skin?

Veganism or vegetarianism is hip and happening. More and more we see that people are choosing not to eat animal products. Even there are many brands who offer special cosmetic products for vegetarians. You can easily get vegan lip balm, mascara, and other vegan friendly cosmetic products online. This is good for health reasons or because of the love for animals and the environment.

The Do’s and Don’t

As a vegan you do not eat meat, fish or other animal products. This means: no eggs, no dairy and no honey. Also, do not use leather or cosmetic products that contain animal ingredients or have been tested on animals. As a vegetarian, on the other hand, you do not eat meat or fish (fish is optional), but you do eat dairy, honey and eggs. You may use leather products or other materials that come from animals. The similarity between these two diets is that both lifestyles pose risks of nutrient and vitamin deficiencies. This eventually also has an effect on the skin. But what does this lifestyle do to the skin? The best part is, vegans often consume more vegetable products such as beans, lentils and nuts. This is only good, because plant-based nutrition is good for beautiful skin and a healthy body. In addition, dairy products are often eaten less, especially with a vegan lifestyle.
